Reproduction lable, or leave them riped?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to collecting for the VB... and I'm kicking myself. I remember playing with this thing in K&B Toys, and thinking... "Who the heck wants a red screen?!?!" LOL. (I was already a Nintendo fan) Even when they went cheap... I still didn't want it.

Anyway... I'm not a hardcore collector, and mostly I like to be able to play with my "Toys." So, I've bought several games VERY cheap because of ugly labels. So the question is........

Is it a sin to put on a reproduction label onto a cartridge? Does it take away from it's value more than the ripped original label?

Let me know what you think.

Personally I just leave the labels and just seek out better ones later on if I really like the game. It's usually frowned upon among collectors but TBH it's your money and we can't tell you what to do with it.

I love the custom labels on my 1-off carts and the one I replaced a torn Vertical Force label with! I own a VB and games, to play games. Even if I resold everything, I think the custom labels have more charm and collect-ability than the torn/ripped/written on one that previously adorned the cart! If you're curious, I have some photos in my profile's collection tab.

No sir, just no. Repro anything will never have more collectibility than OEM anything.

I do not share YOUR personal opinion. "OEM" as you put it, is boring. My custom labels are 100x better than the originals and represent the 1-off "collectibility" of my VB carts much more accurately than an official label ever could.

Well as opinions are like a-holes, I'm sure you've seen that quote. You're dead wrong, but hey if you love your personal art that's fantastic and probably some others do too. But, even if miserable as most the default VB art was on games (vs the Japanese stickers) they're still what is collectible like it or not.

That said I fall on the side of intentionally offending collectors who just see dollar signs. If I label is jacked up, my take on it, find someone who can whip up something 1:1 or as close as possible that would take a really good discerning eye to say otherwise. There's no reason to ghetto up a cart to make someone else happy who has no stake in what you do with your money and property. :) Given that VB games fall into the Nintendo post-laminate stickers they're far easier to make copies of than the NES/SNES (pre 1995) stuff.
