Today I did something I have wanted to do for years: properly solder fix my Virtual Boys. My first one had a weird problem where the image was mirrored on the left eye, and there were some brightness differences (forgot to get a before pic). My second one was perfect for a while, but over time deteriorated more and more. I tried the oven method once in the past, but over time it just deteriorated more until it was unusable. Today I wanted to fix that. I followed a YouTube guide by "RETRO GAMING ARTS" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CaOaHgAv9I) and many helpful tips by members such as Guy Perfect, DogP, KR155E, and RetroDan. In the end, the results were great! My soldering job is not great by any means, and could have been done a lot better by someone else, but I wanted to try it to see if I could do it and I did and am happy with the results! (These are in-progress pictures, I did not leave the blobs of solder).

Good job, and nice suspense there.

I see these Crisco looking blobs, then some melt looking stuff going on, and then the final clean enough job with pop Wario and Jack Bros.

Very good. I had to have Chris Snead do mine on facebook for a very reasonable price of $10 an eye + shipping, and it's perfect with a quality professional looking job done. I wish I could do it, but I don't have that steady a hand and I'm uncertain I have the right tools too.

What all did you use in your process?

I just have this kit:
