I hope this turns out legit and the hole blows wide open, but it looks as though someone out there found a way to run homebrew on the 3DS. All we need now is someone to write a good Virtual Boy emulator and this community can breathe a sigh of relief and store our Virtual Boys. Not that I don't love me some actual Virtual Boy play, but it would be nice to keep everything stored away in great condition.

Funny thing is that absolutely no one in that other community is looking forward to wanting to play Virtual Boy games, go figure...

It's legit. Smea posted about it on their Twitter. It's also really cool.

I've put a great deal of thought into the best way to have a Virtual Boy emulator on 3DS/ARM. I've got concepts drafted up for both an interpreter core and a recompiler core, and have just short of made one on an earlier ARM system as a proof of concept.

Depending on how feasible 3DS homebrew is, I'll be all over it. I'll even buy a new system if it means being unable to update the firmware ever again. (-:

You just got me super excited. It would be great if Virtual Boy ended up gaining a whole bunch of new fans due to this.

Demand for Cubic Ninja is thru the roof now.

This is pretty darn cool. I like the idea of homebrew on the 3DS, lots of possibilities with the 3D screen. Honestly though, while I would definitely try VB on the 3DS, I would still prefer to play on the actual system.

I mean, I kept my old Xperia Play to use as a little emulator machine, yet I still always end up playing my games on the original hardware.

Although it is nice to bring home console games with me when I actually do travel, would be nice to bring some VB games along too.

there has been 3ds homebrew for awhile and a way to play them. smealum's launcher is the only one that will be free (it won't require an expensive 3ds flash kit) and will not luanch 3ds rom back-ups.

I had no idea. I thought that they had found a way to run homebrew in DS mode and finally now they can run everything natively on the 3DS. Either way, I feel that this will open up a ton more people to 3DS homebrew and the Virtual Boy will gain more of a fanbase.

Well, if anyone's interested, I got Red Dragon working on a 3DS emulator (I couldn't test it on actual hardware yet) and it runs at about 1 or 0.5 fps. It should be much better on a real 3DS, although it will probably need some optimizing for it to be close to playable.

If anyone wants to test it, the code's on GitHub: https://github.com/mrdanielps/r3Ddragon
And here are some screenshots: https://github.com/mrdanielps/r3Ddragon/wiki/Screenshots

I had read your posts a while back and it looked really interesting. I don't know how much I can help, but count me in.
