Maybe the user is some sort of spammer talking about the Tsunami? English not his first language?

I may not be the biggest Nintendo fan, but even I recognize that the 3DS is cool hardware.

I definitely see a correlation between the 3DS and the Virtual Boy. To me, the 3DS is Nintendo's way of saying, "Hey, maybe this is how the 3D approach that we first tried with the Virtual Boy will actually see commercial success, so let's take a risk again." Because of that, I support Nintendo in its attempt and will probably get a 3DS in the next several months.

So far, I've only seen Street Fighter IV on it at Game Stop, and I was rather impressed with the 3D effects. I prefer Virtual Boy's 3D effects over the 3DS's though, since the Virtual Boy's 3D is right in your face, while the 3DS's 3D is sorta way out there.

Either way, I don't want the 3DS to go the way of the Virtual Boy. I don't want to be looking for some rare 3DS game 15 years down the road, which I can only find used from a seller for $1,000.00, which certainly applies to the Virtual Boy at present. Thus, I want to jump on the 3DS bandwagon sooner rather than later and support Nintendo in its cause.

I'm really disappointed with the 3DS so far. It's clear Nintendo rushed this thing out the door. The construction is shoddy, the battery life is almost nonexistant, the screen has a very specific "sweet spot" that you have to view in order to see the 3D without ghosting and straining your eyes. Also, they have publicly said that they want all games to be playable 100% in 2D so the 3D effects will not have any impact on gameplay, they will just be pretty to look at.

Plus the launch lineup is terrible and until the remakes of Zelda and Star Fox 64 come out I have zero excitement for any of the games. I've tried Pilot Wings, Street Fighter and a few others and they were only impressive for about 5 minutes. Pilot Wings is pretty worthless if you look at it as a game and not just a 3D tech demo.

Plus the online store wasn't out at the console launch which is very bad form. Why release a device before its not ready and before there are any attractive games for the system? The sales for the 3DS are apparently underwhelming and I would not be surprised in the least if the 3DS goes the way of the Virtual Boy. At this point in time 3D is just a buzzword that stands for "more expensive and not worth it." Consumers just don't want 3D. They don't want it at home on their TV, they don't want to pay extra at the theater, and they don't want an ugly brick of a gaming system that has to be held a foot from your face.

While I don't agree with everything you said, I definitely do agree that at the moment, I have no desire to buy a 3DS. I played Pilotwings, and wasn't impressed by the game, and none of the other games really looked interesting. The 3D effect was okay, but having to hold it at the one sweet spot was kinda annoying, and it did almost feel like I was looking at one of those lenticular images. And this is coming from someone who is a HUGE fan of 3D technology.

If they release some really good first party games, I'll most likely pick it up just for them... but the 3D on that tiny screen just isn't really immersive. 3D on a small screen (like 3D cell phone screens) just seems a little pointless. VB FTW!

I agree with you and find it really funny. I've only played with a 3DS for a few minutes, but I knid of noticed the same thing, the immersiveness (is that even a word?) just isn't there. Unbelievably, the clunky visor that you have to press your head into actually helps. On a funny side note, I was curious when the 3DS came out, so I checked some specifications... did you know that up until the 3DS top screen, the Virtual Boy "screen" had a higher resolution than any single screen on a Nintendo portable?

Yeah, I'm starting to draw some interesting parallels between the VB and the 3DS. Poor launch title support, negative press, "It hurts my eyes", the whole bit... I think most Nintendo fans are holding out until Starfox 64 and OoT, but you'd better hope it survives that long or the 3DS will relive it's older sibling's unreleased game nightmare as well.

I will also chime in and say I prefer the VB over the 3DS. As the owner of a 3DS, I think it's a cool toy. There is depth, but ZERO immersion. Also a bit peeved about the sloppy construction (floppy screen), and the terrible sweet spot. If the console fails, let's hope it at least gets one killer App before said death.

If it does die out, I'll remember this time to buy up the uncommon or rare games on clearance to horde for the next 15 years

I've had mine now since day 1, and have to say fully enjoying it, but there are niggles, as have been pointed out.
1 that is bugging me, and I have not seen it mentioned before, is the lines left on the top screen from the bottom screen when closed up, its not scratched the screen but i do have to clean off something each time (i have a glasses cloth with my 3DS at all times now for that)
I don't think it will fail on the scale the VB did, a whole heap of folks on the margins of gaming don't even know VB existed, but 3DS is fairly well known, but i don't think its gonna get the status the DS held.
As a DS 2 i think its a good step, but could have been a bit higher res. The built in stuff is fun, I hope it get built on more and not just a out of the box gimmick.
The screen has depth but yeah VB is more immersive. It will never have a 'pop' out feeling, the screen would need to encompass some of your peripheral vision to achieve that (only with Imax 3D have i ever had that 'oh i could reach out and touch that')
I find i have to support my arms/wrists, on my knees or table, to keep the 3D while playing, but even then human nature can take over and i find I'm tilting it or something and the 3D is ghosting. My eyes have definitely adapted in the last 6 wks or so, as i can play for longer and with 3D slider fully up now.
It is certainly a but of a rocky start, time will tell, I hope it sticks around though I'm having alot of fun with it.

I do not have a 3DS yet to make a true opinion on it, but I know I'll always like my VB the most and the 3DS cannot take its place in that spot, no matter what cool stuff comes out for it (I did see the 3DS quickly once at Gamestop, but I did not play it (only due to not being able to spend much time there, not out of disinterest of the 3DS))

if the 3DS does go the way of the VB that would be sad, I think...
