I'm based in the US and could do the repairs as well if you're still looking.

I just finished a repair for another US member on the forums and am now confident enough in my skills to begin offering my services to others. If anyone US based is interested, feel free to pm me about repairs.

Do you mean like modifying a tv wall mount so you can attach a virtual boy to it?

Or something like this custom vb arcade cabinet?

I may be able to help. I just completed my first VB display repair this week and am located in Seattle. I can't make any guarantees but if you're interested, feel free to pm me.

Thanks! The process of peeling took about ten minutes each for both displays. It was a lot less painful than I thought it would be. It's mostly a matter of just taking it nice and slow like peeling an old sticker off. It also helps if you start pulling the needle up perpendicular to the lines once you get it going, so there's less of a chance of pulling up the copper lines.

The soldering took maybe another twenty minutes.

The things I would do differently for if I had to do this again would be to find some way to heat up the needle a little when doing the peeling up and to get a smaller soldering tip for my soldering iron.

Bumping an old thread but hopefully this will help someone.

I recently got a VB headset from ebay that had one working display. After fiddling with it, both displays went out.

I managed to start the repairs using the needle method and the soldering method. I used a normal sewing needle to slowly pry up the laminate by very carefully sliding it in between the copper lines. You then just do the same thing very carefully on each channel until you peel off enough to cut off the excess.

I then did the standard soldering method to fix up the ribbon wire connection and now the displays work great!

Note: you do have the possibility of pulling up the copper lines along with the laminate if you aren't careful as you can see in the pictures. I was able to resolder those lines but do keep that in mind.

Normally this is when I would get to work on getting the ribbons repaired. But the previous owner attempted to "repair them".

As far as I can tell they tried the bake method as there was tape on the ribbons and then they tried to "solder" it by melting the plastic over the copper and made a nice hole on one ribbon making it unfixable. So now one display is completely dead. The other side has the vertical scrolling issue.

At this point I just wanted to make sure that everything else works on the unit and am looking for some replacement parts.
