Planet Virtual Boy

This thread is for my preliminary English translations of the information on the box and in the instruction booklet of "SD Gundam Dimension War," one of the "Japan Only" Virtual Boy games. As I did with my translations for "V-Tetris," "Virtual Bowling," "Space Invaders Virtual Collection," "Virtual Lab," "Space Squash," and "Insmouse No Yakata" ("Mansion of Insmouse"), I once again make mention of the fact that I myself do not know or speak Japanese and, rather, rely on translation software programs and online Japanese to English dictionaries and other online sources to make the translations. Nevertheless, I have gotten the hang of using such sources and am quite confident that these translations accurately convey the meaning of the original Japanese information. Still, I post my work here with the hope of receiving helpful input from others who may have better knowledge of the meaning of certain sections.

Please be sure to make these adjustments before

Please insert the cartridge properly
into the main body of the Virtual Boy.
After inserting the cartridge, turn the
POWER switch located on the front
of the controller to the ON position;
after a little while, the screen at right
will appear.

プレイヤーの左目と右目の幅

This is the adjustment that adjusts the
display inside the Virtual Boy to the width
between the player's left and right eyes.

調整画面を見ながら、本体上
部にある「目の幅調整ダイアル」
をまわし、画面の4すみにあるマークが見える
状態にあわせてください。
While looking at the adjustment screen,
please turn the "IPD Adjustment Dial"
located on top of the main body until you can see a mark
in all 4 corners of the screen.

Please adjust it so that you can see
a mark in each of the 4 corners,

※4つのマーク全てが見えない揚合もありますが、3つ

※In some cases, all 4 marks may not be visible. If 3 are

ゲーム中でも、ポーズ(一時中止)状態でSELECTボタンを
押すと目の幅調整画面に切り替わり、再び調整ができます。
Also during the game, if you press the SELECT button while the game is paused,
it switches to the IPD Adjustment Screen, and you can adjust it once again.

AUTOMATIC PAUSE FUNCTION

バーチャルボーイ専用カートリッジには、プレイ
ヤーの目の健康を寺るため、適度な時間でゲーム
を自動的に休止する「オートマティックポーズ機
能」があります。
For the eye health of the player, all Virtual Boy
exclusive-use cartridges have an "Automatic
Pause Function," which automatically pauses the
game after a reasonable amount of time.

●「目の幅調整画面」で調整を
終えた後、STARTボタン
を押すと右の画面に切り替
わります。L+ボタンの左
右で、「オートマティックポ
ーズ機能」のON/OFFが選べます。この画面で
再びSTARTボタンを押すとデモが始まり、さ

ストーリー

人類が宇宙に活動の場を求めてからどれだけの月日
が流れただろうか…?
幾多の争いに火が着いては消え、悲しみを繰り返し
その度に多くの人が涙を流して来た…。
そしてまた、今も続く戦いの中、戦況が悪くなった
軍は各基地で開発されていた新型MSを回収し、前
線に配備するべく部隊を派遣した。
そのプロジェクトを任命されたのはG部隊…。歴戦
の勇姿を今も語り継ぐガンダムを中心に編成された
部隊である。
G部隊は「MSの回収」と「敵部隊の壊滅」の使命
を帯び、戦場へと出撃した。
数々の戦いを繰り返す度にG部隊は新たな敵の存在
と新型MSの情報をキャッチし、軍司令部より新た
な使命が下された!
『敵新型MSをたたけ!!』
回収した新型MSと共に、G部隊は敵新型MSを破
壊するため、新たな戦場へ向けて再び飛び立つのだ
った…。


STORY

Just how much time may have passed since humanity began to pursue a place of activity in space...?

Fires resulting from numerous battles go out. There has been repeated sadness, and many people have come to tears each time....

And amidst the fighting that continues even now, the war situation has worsened. Armed enemy forces retrieved the new mobile suit models that had been developed at each base. Troops were dispatched, in order to be deployed to the front lines.

G Force was appointed to the project.... This is the force that was organized around the Gundams and that even now hands down the battle-tested, brave figures.

G Force, tasked with destroying the enemy forces and recovering the mobile suits, raided into the battlefield.

Upon repeating the battles a number of times, G Force received information on the existence of new enemies and all-new mobile suit models. There is now a new mission from military headquarters!

"Attack the new enemy mobile suits!!"

Together with the new mobile suit models that were recovered, G Force starts out once again for a new battlefield, in order to destroy the new enemy mobile suits....

ゲームの目的

シナリオのストーリーに沿って、ミッション(作戦)をクリア
して行きます。設定された条件をクリアすると、次のステージ
に移ります。すべてのステージのミッションをクリアするとゲ
ームのエンディングデモを見ることができます。


OBJECT OF THE GAME

In accordance with the story of the scenario, you are to clear
the mission (operation). If you clear the conditions that are set,
it moves on to the next stage. If you clear all the stages of the
mission, you can see the ending demo of the game.

Really great, thanks again for doing all these translations, Ben! It's about time I find a good way to add these next to the scans in the games section.

You're welcome. It's nice to know that these translations are appreciated. It would be very nice, indeed, if these could be added next to the scans in the game manuals sections. I actually hope to create a PDF version of the SD Gundam manual, which will look almost like an exact replica of the Japanese manual but in English. I don't know if that might make posting next to the Japanese manual easier.

Following the "IPD Adjustment
Screen" and "Automatic Pause
Function Setting Screen," there
will be an opening demo.
(If you press the A, B, or START
button, it will skip the opening
demo and go to the title screen.)
When the opening demo ends, the title screen will be displayed. Select either
"NEW GAME" (to start from the beginning) or "CONTINUE" (to start from a
continuation).
If you select "NEW GAME," a story demo will begin. Then, the game will start.
If you select "CONTINUE," you can resume the game from a previous time
that you saved.

勝利条件と戦後処理
CONDITION FOR VICTORY & AFTER-BATTLE TREATMENT

敵の戦艦を撃沈することで勝利条件が満たされ、ステージクリ
アとなります。また、自軍の戦艦が撃沈されてしまうとゲーム
オーバーとなります。(ゲームオーバーについてはP12参照)
ステージをクリアするとストーリーデモが流れ、ダメージ回復
後、ストーリーに準じたMSが自動的に配備されています。
By sinking the enemy battleship, the condition for victory is met
and the stage is cleared. Also, if your troops' battleship gets sunk,
it's Game Over. (For Game Over, see page 12.)
When a stage is cleared, a story demo will follow. All damages will
be recovered and mobile suits that correspond to the story will
automatically be deployed.
